Yes, You Can Celebrate Halloween & Be Safe —Here's How
Staying safe and having fun in the time of COVID
Written by Kelly Carbone
Although Halloween might be looking a little different this year, there are many ways you can still celebrate. Check out the list below for ways to safely get into that spooky spirit.
Drive-in Movie
Drive-in movies are the perfect way to have some socially distant fun. Whether you’re watching a Halloween childhood favorite or a fall classic, you’ll be able to enjoy the show from the comfort of your own car. If you don’t have any drive-in theaters by you, you can easily recreate this ambiance in your own backyard using a projector and comfy chairs (spaced out 6 feet apart of course).
Host A Virtual Happy Hour
A nice Halloween cocktail hour is the perfect way to relive those Zoom happy hours from the early quarantine days, and to socialize with friends. Mix up something fun and festive, like a fall sangria or spiked apple cider, to really embrace the Halloween mood. If you’re looking for ways to make this kid and family friendly you can swap the alcoholic drinks for mocktails and add fun activities and competitions that can easily be recreated in your own home, like an apple bobbing or pumpkin carving contest.
T-shirt Swap
If you’re someone who feels disappointed in the missed opportunity to dress up, this is the activity for you. Start a t-shirt swap with your friends. This is a fun and inexpensive way to connect with friends and will give you an excuse to dress up for the night. Much like Secret Santa, each person will pick someone to send a personalized t-shirt to, keeping the Halloween theme in mind. On the 31st, you and your friends will have a nice personalized gift and something to wear. Plan a virtual happy hour and as a bonus and have everyone wear their new shirts!
Make Your Own Candy
If you’re looking to indulge your sweet tooth and embrace the Halloween spirit all in one activity making some homemade candy is the perfect way to go. From Halloween bark to homemade lollipops or marshmallow ghosts, you’ll have numerous options to choose from and a sweet treat to enjoy when the confection making is over.
Make A Halloween Grab Bag
Making your own grab bag allows you to safely participate in some neighborhood trick-or-treating. By creating individualized bags you are not only left with something cute that fully embraces that fall aesthetic, you are also creating a safe treat for others to enjoy without having to touch and potentially contaminate a free-for-all bowl of candyJust make sure you sanitize before and after handling the bags and leave them on a table outside your home for a perfectly safe and fun treat.
