This year, holidays are in a unique position, requiring friends and family from everywhere to come together and make alternatives to traditional celebrations. As one of the final hoorahs of the year, Halloween still deserves the commemoration its had for so many years, and to do it right we have to be imaginative. After all, the spirit of the holiday is about being outside-the-box, and as long as we have that going for us, we can have fun and try new things while staying safe. Here are just a few ways you can freshen up your festivities and make this Halloween one for everybody to remember.
The (Costume) Party’s Where It’s At
Half the fun of Halloween is dressing up as a favorite celebrity, character, or something of your own creation without judgment or hesitation. For this holiday, if there’s an idea you have that’s out of your comfort zone or exceptionally unique, it might turn out to be the key to unlocking a new part of yourself that you didn’t know about. Surely there would be no better joy or self-esteem boost to have your friends see what they least expect from you. Better yet, invite them to do the same and turn the night into a costume party that is truly one of a kind.
What’s a Haunted House if Not a Big Room?
If you aren’t the party type or aren't up t for a public event just yet, bring the fun directly to your home. For those of you without a plan or the means to travel, you don’t have to look farther than your local Halloween store to deck out your house with decorations to evoke your favorite haunted attractions. It might not seem like much, but the act of creating a space for you and others to recreate what is so common in professional, public environments makes it something for everyone to participate in rather than look through from the outside.
Scary Movie: Home Edition
When all else fails, there is always a crutch you can rely on; the simplicity of a good horror film. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic or something newer for less familiarized tastes, the escape offered by scary movies is one that can not be matched. Most of what we think a party is comes down to an intimate gathering of friends and provided entertainment, and sometimes that’s all you need to pass time in good spirits (no pun intended!).
