The Power of Consistency

Master consistency. Excel at life.

Written by Shandel Walker

Welcome to March, winter is ( hopefully) coming to a close and you along with many others have forgotten what your NYE resolution was and found yourself repeating the cycle of years past. We know it's frustrating, but we're here to tell you that it doesn't always have to be that way. Like everything else in life, being consistent requires practice. If you're ready to tap into your full potential and finally prove to yourself, you can complete something. Keep reading to discover a few tips on how to master consistency.

Make Realistic Goals

If you want to begin running but the most you ever ran was up the stairs through the crowd to make the express train, don't be surprised if  you can’t complete two miles on your first run. Be realistic, start small and be mindful of where you are in your journey. Experience is a great teacher, and aiming above your comfort level isn't the wisest thing to do, as it can make you feel defeated quickly and provide yourself with excuses as to why you should quit. You'll make it to two miles one day, just be patient.

Enjoy The Journey

The outcome doesn't matter, at least not right now. Merely focus on showing up and committing yourself to the action. It may sound cliche, but taking things one step at a time actually works. The fact you're even doing what you said in the first place is a huge feat. You've completed day one great! Focus on tomorrow, not six months from now.

Document Your Progress

Whether it be a calendar, journal, or pictures, document your progress. This is a great way to visually see your growth and help keep you motivated. Most of the time, people expect to see dramatic changes and get discouraged when they don't see what they envisioned. But change happens slowly, and if you're not documenting your progress, you won't be aware of the growth that is happening. So do yourself a favor and don't rob yourself of this joy.

Don't Listen To The Nay-Sayers

Some people never miss an opportunity to call you out on what you’re not doing. Don't let that discourage you. Keep going! Don't aim to prove anyone wrong, with a mindset like that you're sure to be more complacent than consistent. Instead, remind yourself you're doing this for you and no one else.

Rest, Relax, and Recharge

Several weeks passed, and you're still going strong, but some days you might be just plain TIRED. Determined to do better, you're finding the energy to push yourself, which is awesome, but exhaustion and being burnt out is a real thing. Taking time to rest, relax, and recharge is essential. You're human, and we all need a break sometimes. After a good nights sleep, you will feel refreshed and pumped to keep going. Plus, with all that work you've been putting in, you deserve to relax and do nothing.

Tough but not  impossible consistency can play a key role in mental, emotional and physical health. So say it loud or go post-it crazy because regardless of how big or small: You got this.

Now playing….
