“Freedom has been hittin’ different for me.”- Brittney Marshall, Creative Director & Social Media Queen
The months of staying home, staying safe and staying distant have altered day-to-day life in almost every way. Yet as we are adjusting to this new normal, it’s hard to envision what life would’ve been had the world not given us the time to slow down. Ahead we spoke to 5 women creatives to see just how quarantine has affected their routines, rituals, and daily relationship with self-care.

What does a typical day for you look like?
Daily exercise- I recently began jump roping and visiting the track to run on a regular basis. This has helped me get back into the swing of working out since the gyms are closed.
Testing out new Black owned skin and body care products- I’ve had a lot of fun trying new body and skincare products by Black owned businesses. Two of my latest purchases are Honey Pot’s Calming Lavender Panty Spray, and the Radiate Face Jelly by Base Butter.
Juicing- I’ve been juicing in the mornings. It has become a ritual that I look forward to, it always adds that extra boost that I need to get my day started. My favorite juices contain Carrots, lemon juice, beets and oranges I’ll drop a few tinctures into my juices every now and again; mainly to boost my immune system.
Practicing Affirmations- Every day I draw a card from MyBrownBox Affirmation Deck and repeat it out loud until it resonates.
How has quarantine shifted your practice?
Now I am forced to practice self-care, and to work on becoming my best self. It’s like I have more freedom to shape my life according to my own terms, during these times. Quarantine came around and freedom has been hittin’ different for me.
How do describe your relationship with self-care?
My brand is rooted in self-love & self-care. Everything we share within the MyBrownBox community is to encourage Black women to unapologetically love on themselves a bit harder, every single day. It’s also a constant self-reminder because I ask myself, how can I encourage self-care amongst other women if I am not practicing what I preach.
