Whether you’re still searching for that perfect holiday gift or are in generous spirits, nothing goes farther faster than donations to your local and national causes. If you have the means to do something special for a person in your life (you included), saving a little room to support a cause bigger than yourself might be the key to seeing positive changes made in your community. This season, consider giving back to an organization that supports something you care about. Though there are more options than I’ll be able to list, here are just a few charitable operations tirelessly working to spread love, awareness, and justice for a better tomorrow.

The Innocence Project

Founded in 1992, The Innocence Project is not your average social justice campaign. Through extensive DNA research and explicit reform of the court system, this independent organization brings people together from all around the country directly into the process of freeing the innocent from wrongful prison sentences. With a tax-deductible donation, you can help save someone from a false conviction and allow the project to bring integrity back to a system that allows mistreatment to reign.

World Central Kitchen

Headed by superstar chef and entrepreneur José Andrés, World Central Kitchen has been at the frontlines of disaster relief for just over a decade. The support received after their first response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti has allowed the non-profit to feed millions in distress and provide vital resources to families all around the world. Support of their Clean Cooking and Plow to Plate programs will help their team promote environmental sustainability in underdeveloped countries.

The Trevor Project

Ending the epidemic of suicide in the LGBTQ+ community is no simple task, but The Trevor Project hasn’t done it alone. With the support of their donors and dedicated volunteers, their 24/7 helplines can remain open for every call and text that will save a young person’s life. An invaluable resource for Black queer youth organizers around the world, every dollar raised assists in the education of over twenty thousand disenfranchised kids who struggle with the language to live as their true selves.

American Humane

There is no bond more special than the ones we foster with our pets. For over a hundred and twenty-five years, American Humane has followed on their promise to make a safer world for animals and create bonds with those who are always by their sides. The continued funding of their Humane Hollywood program will monitor thousands of film and television sets to ensure ethical treatment of every animal that appears. Your impact is also seen in every military veteran connected with new lifelong friends.
