The word authentic is used a lot when it comes to describing a brand, a lifestyle or even a presence. In fact, today the word authenticity holds more weight than ever, with many brands using their platforms as a way to stand with the pivotal racial movements the world is currently experiencing. In a sea of often tainted displays of authenticity, a brand developed with intent by a creator with a cause feels like a breath of fresh air.

The Untamed Label is a that breath of fresh air. Its collection of sexy feel good clothes and swimwear celebrates the diversity and alluring femininity of women. But what is most impressive about this brand is its triple threat message of sustainability, eco-awareness and body positivity among people of color. A message that creator Lexy Jeanette expresses proudly. Lexy has always had the desire to better the environment and planet around her, but after watching “The True Cost” documentary her feelings became less of a desire and more of a mission. The documentary, which delves deep into the fast fashion industry and the toll it takes on the workers and environment, changed her view and overall goal for The Untamed Label. After seeing the harmful effects of fast fashion, especially in black and brown communities, Lexy knew she wanted her brand to be different. So, she closed down her store to revamp the narrative inside and out.

But changing her clothing line was just the beginning. Like many brands The Untamed Label found success on Instagram, and when looking for a platform to highlight eco-friendly brands owned and operated by people of color she found the social space to be lacking. From there the decision for community was easy, and Color of Eco was born. More than a platform Color of Eco is a community and space where black and brown business based in sustainability and environmentalism can connect. From veganism to beauty Color of Eco supports and encourages businesses and influencers based in sustainable lifestyles.

Morals and ethic are something consumers expect from brands and products, but often times they are let down. Lexy’s choice to create fashion in sustainability, without boundaries, and protect the world we all live in is a bold step for change. A brand that boasts, promotes and lives its cause embodies the word authenticity.
