Transform Your Home With This Years Pantone’s Colors
Easy decor ideas featuring 2021’s latest colors
Written by Kelly Carbone
Every year Pantone releases a color of the year to help represent a global desire for the months ahead. 2019 gave us Living Coral, a vibrant yet not overpowering pink meant to represent “warmth...and nourishment...in a shifting environment.” 2020 gave us Classic Blue, a deep and royal hue meant to represent a “sense of peace and tranquility” (I don’t think we need to mention how tragically ironic that one is). In hopes of 2021 being a better year Pantone has not named just one color of the year but instead has given us a duo: Ultimate Gray, a light gray meant to represent practicality and thoughtfulness, and Enlightening, a soft yellow meant to inspire hope. Pantone paints the duo of hues as “a marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.” I can’t think of a better mindset to live 2021 with and what better way to reflect that sentiment than with home decor. Check out the inspo below for some easy ways to adopt these colors into your own home and create a peaceful and optimistic living environment.
Incorporate wall art
One of the simplest ways to help enhance an area of your home is by adding some art to the sparse areas. Whether it’s a set of geometric patterns placed in solid frames or a more abstract tapestry, there are plenty of different forms of wall art you can find that will match your home’s unique style. By sticking to a gray and yellow palette you not only add the balance of a pop of color and a grounding neutral, you also end up with a well put together theme.
Transform your desk accessories
With the ever present reality of working, living and everything between being done at home these days, a great space to bring some positive energy into is your workspace. Liven up the area with some nice desk accessories, like a lamp or plant. For those of us less green thumb-inclined, invest in a nice set of succulents (they are almost impossible to kill!) in gray and yellow pots.
Accessorize with throw pillows
Throw pillows are a quick way to freshen up a space. Mix and match varying shades of yellow and gay pillows and place them on the couch or bed or even your favorite chair. Patterns and textured pillows in the tones are also a great option, and will show off your eye for design.
Try an accent wall
If you’re really looking to transform your home, a nice pale yellow accent wall will help brighten your place up. As any avid HGTV watcher knows, an accent wall is a trendy way to enhance any room. As Pantone has noted these two colors blend well together so you don’t have to worry about picking an unaesthetic pairing. Just keep in mind to stick to a color palette that matches when decorating the rest of the room.
