One of the few good things to come out of 2020 was the increased interest and popularity in loungewear. Long ago are the days when you had to throw on a business suit and some heels and rush to your 9 to 5. Now comfort is key and cozy outfits that were once just a trend have become uniforms for everything from work meetings at home to quick trips to the grocery. Yes, personal style has hit a new stride and we are personally living for it. But, just because we’re zoning in on comfy doesn’t mean we have to be bland. Step up your fashion game with the loungewear tips below.
Play with textures and materials
Although there’s nothing wrong with a basic cotton sweatshirt and sweatpant duo, you can enhance your look with the simple step of playing around with textures and materials. We recommend opting for cashmere or velvet. The material is still soft and extremely comfortable but it will still put an added, more put together edge to your look.
Rep your favorite brand
Another simple way to spice up your loungewear look is by repping your favorite brand. Many brands, such as Glossier, have released some of their own loungewear pieces. The designs are usually still minimalistic, so you can support your favorite businesses without feeling like a walking billboard.
Go for a monochromatic look
Spring and summer were all about bright tie-dye swirls but for winter monochromatic looks are where it’s at. To fully embrace the winter vibe, we recommend looking for dusty pinks, mauves, and blue-grays. If matching sets aren’t your style you can still follow this look by mixing different shades of the same color (think an icy blue top with navy bottoms).
Look for a 3 piece
When wearing loungewear most people opt for a nice two-piece look but it’s important not to overlook a good three-piece option. The long cardigan will not only keep you warm, it will also elongate your frame and add an extra layer of comfy chic style.
Add accessories
Loungewear can easily be dressed up or down with the help of some accessories, further enhancing your look. To dress up your outfit opt for a silk set with a nice pair of heels and a statement bag. To dress down your outfit, throw on your favorite pair of tennis shoes and a stylish baseball cap.
