The month of May, may actually be one of the best times to enjoy a good book. In the years past, we’d put the cold rainy days behind us and find the best park bench to stay put while diving into a good read. This year we’re putting the outdoor reading on hold but that doesn’t keep May from being one of the best reading months. All you need is a comfortable chair or couch, a sun lit room and a really good book. The kind of book you can’t put down and, the kind you look forward to picking up. A storyline you can’t shake has always been the ultimate escape, but if you’re not a big reader now is the time to “see the light”. Here we’ve rounded up some really good reads, new and old, for you to get lost in right from your couch.

Middlesex by Jeffery Eugenides

Embark on a journey of discovery in this winding tale of family secrets and genetic history, in which the narrator and main character, Calliope, uncovers just why she’s not like the other girls. Set in Detroit during the cities glory days, the Stephanides family experiences historic moments while a guilty family secret 3 generations long haunts Callie turned Cal.

 

Eight Perfect Murders by Peter Swanson

A series of murders and questionable deaths are linked together in this classic whodunit mystery. Mystery bookstore owner, and main charterer, Malcom Kershaw becomes sidekick and helper to FBI agent Gwen Mulvey as the two dive deep into the strange deaths. A modern pyscho-thriller plot that will have you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.

 

Normal People by Sally Rooney

In the now Hulu adaptation of the novel, Cornell and Marianne grew up as classmates in a small Irish town, and through social battles of acceptance and popularity their uneasy friendship slowly begins to blossom into more. Normal People follows the story of these two seemingly different lovers as they learn to journey through life together.

 

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
