When it comes to beauty and wellness, we live by the motto more is always better. 2021 is moving right along and it’s safe to say we’ve now hit the winter stride with much needed moisturizing skincare drops. But for every new release the new year has brought us, there have been loads of products waiting in the wings for their chance to shine. Whether new or old these black owned brands are dishing out innovative ideas in beauty and wellness and are high on our radar. Here we’ve rounded up 10 cool brands and products, from makeup to skincare to  health to nails that are an absolute must try this year.

Press on Honey

Press on Honey isn’t just your local drugstore press on nail kit. Instead of generic colors and French tips, you’ll find modern and artistic designs that are influenced by your favorite influencers, like @daynabolden and @dancinivy. From just a quick scroll through their Instagram, it’s easy to see why this brand has gained such strong following. But gram worthy designs there is true industry knowledge from founder Jasmine Monroe, a licensed nail tech with a passion for creative design. And what sets Press on Honey levels above the rest is the salon quality and care. With each nail set and order you’ll receive a prep kit that includes sterilizing prep pads, a nail buffer, orange stick to ensure your manicure is just as fire as those on your feed.

NolaSkinsentials

On their website, Nolaskinsentials offers guidance and vegan products for every skin concern. Start by taking the skin quiz then build your regimen from there. If you’re unsure of new products or want to see just how they’ll work with your current skin care routine, Nolaskinsentials offers a large variety of their products in a “try me size” sample which will last you about 2-8 weeks.

Marla Rene Beauty refreshingly brings nontoxic skincare products to market. The water based essence gently exfoliates with naturally sourced ingredients and has a unique blend of AHA acid from fruit, Glycolic acid from sugar cane, and salicylic acid from white bark and Vitamin C.

Bouquette Beauty

This luxuriously clean skincare line formulated with the best botanicals and substances. Get Frigg

There are many CBD products catered to skincare, but Get Frigg’s approach to whole body wellness is unique. For example their Attuning Hair Potion is a natural blend of herbs and oils like Castor, rosemary and cedarwood and was made to naturally soothe scalps and moisturize dry locks in just a single use. To bring things full circle try their Beauty Rest Tea, an herbal blend of Chamomile, Calendula and CBD which is rich in antioxidants and promotes internal calm and restful sleep.

Mented Cosmetics

Best known for their nude lip collections, mented has grown into a full collection of cosmetics including blush, foundation and setting powders for women of color. And the reviews don’t lie! With almost 2,000 user reviews their infamous Semi-Matte Lipsticks can’t be beat. The vegan formula that is also paraben-free, gluten free and cruelty-free is the perfect blend between matte and deeply moisturizing.

Base Butter

Base butter was created with oily, combination and acne prone skin in mind. It stars organic aloe leaf and has other skin loving natural ingredients like almond oil, witch hazel. With all that and the promise of hydrated skin that is glowy plus non-greasy, it’s easy to see why their Radiate Face Jelly has gained a cult following. This gel moisturizer has a water like texture that makes it the perfect base for layering products like primers, makeup and more.

Soulita Soap

Rooted in body care and DIY wellness Soulita not only produces raw and natural soaps, but also an array of dry masks that can be mixed with household items like olive oil, lemon juice, witch haze, honey, apple cider vinegar or even water. For a true spa experience we recommend the Serene Blend Box, a beautifully boxed aromatic blend of flowers and herbs designed to open pores for an extreme deep cleaning.

Keys Soulcare

Body, spirit, mind and connection is the mantra behind Keys Soulcare. The full body wellness brand launched last fall and has quickly developed a strong following due to gentle ingredients and clean products formulated without FDA restricted substances. Set the mood and get your mind & home balanced with their Sage + Oat Milk Candle. The subtly unique scent is soothing and has underlying notes of smoke and herbal teas.
