The Real Benefits of Reading Your Astrological Chart

Your stars are much more than bright lights.

Written by Jake Levyns

It’s true that a lot of us could stand to get into some better habits; especially with a new year quickly dawning, it isn’t worth it to continue doing things that don’t help us reorient our personal and professional priorities. The simple act of reading a daily horoscope, for instance, can help us think differently about ourselves in relation to the people in our lives as well as refocus our minds to the deeper aspirations within us on a day to day basis. All this can be explained much more thoroughly and personably by frequenting your astrological birth chart, which takes this knowledge and clues you into what really makes your world go round. Even if you aren’t familiar with the task or content, here is a simple guide to where it starts, in the format of Co-Star for iPhone.

The Signs

Your personalized chart is guided, mainly, by the sun, moon, and ascendant signs. The sun, your zodiac sign, dictates your outer sense of self and the ego, while the moon does so the inner, emotional self, and ascendant, or rising as it’s more commonly known, shows how you’re perceived by others. The latter can be tricky to grasp or accept if you allow your own perceptions of how others see you affect your thinking. All three signs, the three main aspects of life in astrology, will help you learn more of what you should expect out of yourself and your day, while also displaying your past, present, and future as determined by your stars.

The Planets & Their Houses

As your chart gets more specific, the details can get somewhat murky if close attention isn’t paid. In astrology, the eight planets of the solar system have their own unique distinctions in your chart, and represent the ambition and drive of every person. They are split into three main groups with their own determining factors. Along with the sun and moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars are personal planets and read one’s communicative skills, affection to others, and aggressive tendencies; Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are referred to as outer planets for their focus on relinquishing control over the powers beyond our own; Jupiter and Saturn, lastly, sit in the middle of both categories as the two social planets, encouraging the development of one’s sense of optimism and discipline. All planets lie within their own zodiac signs on your chart and find their placement within one of twelve specific houses that specify your zodiac’s position on the Earth’s axis, further confirming how certain facets of your personality affect you and others without even knowing.

All this may seem very overwhelming to people who haven’t exposed themselves to this before, but taken slowly and patiently fostered, your astrological chart can ground you in a knowledge of self that prioritizes resilience and understanding over doubt.
