Building an herbal tea collection can be extremely beneficial for both physical and mental health. Many herbal tea blends are proven to have healing, detoxifying and calming capabilities, so why is it that one of the most common blends is also the most overlooked. Peppermint tea may be regarded as common and mundane but it actually has a list of capabilities and benefits well beyond being a refreshing beverage.

One of the most well-known attributes of peppermint tea is its ability to aid in digestion and help relieve gastrointestinal symptoms, thanks to menthol. The active ingredient is naturally found in peppermint and promotes a healthy digestive tract when taken after a meal or before bed. The effects of late-night eating spill over into bedtime. I.e.an upset stomach, which is a common side effect after a late meal. Drinking a cup of peppermint tea before bed not only helps digestion but it also soothes the mind and relaxes muscles for a restful slumber. Indeed, studies have shown that peppermint leaves and tea calm mental fatigue in turn promoting mental clarity.

Still there are more health benefits to this common hot beverage. Like many other herbal teas, peppermint tea is packed full of good-for-you phytochemicals like vitamins and minerals. Those along with its antioxidant properties help strengthen your immune system for good health inside out. And the antibacterial and antiviral properties don’t hurt either.

Peppermint tea proves there is more than what meets the eye. The health boosting abilities of this common tea rival that of exotic herbs and dried floral blends. Yes, it may be boring and a tad bland but it with properties like these it deserves a spot in your tea collection. Even if it’s just a tiny one.
